Interesting to have my memory refreshed that David was at first only king of Judah. He ruled in Hebron, which was the capital of Judah. Then David moved to Jerusalem and ruled from there as the king of the united kingdom (Israel and Judah). This was the first time the Bible speaks that Israel almost split apart after Saul's death. But David kept that from happening and united Israel. Of course later on, after Solomon's death, the tribes are split up again (Israel by the Assyrians and Judah by Babylon).
