Nathan Confronts King David
The difference between David and Saul was admission and repentance. David admitted his transgressions and repented of them while Saul made excuses.
ReplyDeleteThat distinction makes all the difference
ReplyDeleteIn I Chronicles 17, David says, "Who am I, LORD God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?" All Christians should ask this question. In the United States, we live in a society where most folks think that they DESERVE the best of everything, that it is our right as Americans to accumulate whatever our heart desires. Instead, we should be grateful to the God who by His sovereign choice allows us to have good things. When any person honestly examines him/herself, they humbly realize that God hasn't given them the good things they deserve, He has given them good things they do not deserve.
ReplyDeleteI love your approach to material things and all the desires of our hearts. We don't deserve anything but damnation in Hell yet the Lord, through HIS love, gave His Son, 1/3 of the Trinity, to suffer at the hands of the same people who sinned against Him and for whom He came to Earth in the first place to save (what irony is that??). But this country has taught many of us to love ourselves and not God, or even each other. Not many really LOVE their neighbor as themselves. Most love ONLY themselves: not their spouses, not their children, not their friends, not their co-workers, no one. Yet David, the king of all Israel still felt unworthy to be blessed by the Lord and to maintain his seed through the arrival of the Messiah. That's humbleness in the face of greatness!
